LYS Advocaten assists many expats and Dutch nationals living abroad in their divorce procedures.
We advise and litigate in cases with international aspects. This may be the case if you married abroad, lived abroad, or do not have Dutch nationality. You may also have to deal with international law if you have assets abroad.
What law applies?
A key question that arises in international situations is what law applies. And who can decide on that? Would it be a Dutch judge or a foreign judge? And can the decision of a foreign court be enforced in the Netherlands? These are complex issues that vary from situation to situation.
Broad international expertise and experience
At LYS Advocaten, we have extensive international knowledge and experience to advise you on your situation. For example, we draw up our agreements in English. In doing so, we take into account that the agreements, or parts thereof, will be executed abroad. We tailor the agreements accordingly. This requires knowledge of foreign law, foreign taxes, and pension regulations, etc. In that context, we cooperate with foreign experts if so required.
